In the dynamic world of stock market trading, understanding different order types is crucial for successful investing. At Candila Education, we equip our students with the knowledge and skills to navigate the market effectively.

What is an Order?

An order is an instruction given by an investor to their broker to buy or sell securities on their behalf. These orders can be placed in various ways, each with its own set of characteristics.

Key Order Types:

Market Order: This is the most straightforward order type. A market order instructs the broker to execute the trade at the best available price in the market at that specific moment.

Limit Order: With a limit order, you set a specific price at which you are willing to buy or sell a security. The order will only be executed if the market price reaches your specified limit.

Stop-Loss Order: This order helps you limit your potential losses. You set a specific price (trigger price). If the price of the security reaches this trigger price, a market order is automatically placed to sell your position.

Margin Order: Margin trading allows you to leverage your investment by borrowing funds from your broker to increase your purchasing power. You only need to pay a fraction of the total trade value upfront.

Intraday Order: These orders must be executed and settled on the same trading day before market close.
IOC (Immediate or Cancel) Order: This order must be executed immediately. If it cannot be executed immediately, it is automatically canceled.

Day Order: A day order is valid only for the trading day on which it is placed.

Good Till Triggered (GTT) Order: GTT orders allow you to place buy or sell orders at a predetermined limit price. These orders remain active until the specified trigger price is reached.

After Market Order (AMO): AMO allows you to place orders outside of regular market hours, either before or after the market closes.
